On Thursday morning the North East of England woke to a blanket of snow, covering landforms, gardens, cars and roads! Changing the landscape to a mystical winter wonderland. At the same time bringing chaos to traffic and a logistical nightmare to those who had to make it to work!
I was meant to be traveling to a friends wedding in the South of England, but with my car rapidly being buried under a foot of snow, two brutal hills to navigate to get out… the option of staying at home looked the more sensible, and by the Friday, there was no option. The only way to travel these back country roads was by tractor…
When the snow falls, most people complain, whing about how hard it is to get to work, to travel, to go about life? The country grinds to a grid lock. Having lived in Japan and France, where a foot or more of snow falls a night, its something which always confuses me! For sure, the Brits never get much practise at driving on snow, but then is it always so essential to do the things that we think we need to do everyday? When the snow falls and prevents you going about your everyday life, relax a little, look out of the window, walk to the park with loved ones, admire the beauty, that the landscape has become, take time out to unwind! Work will still be there tomorrow, there is always a way to get the groceries, and it wont last for ever.
