Last year, I spent a day running around the Yorkshire Three Peaks course, it happened to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the legendary Three Peaks Race, however, I wasn’t clad in my ultra lightweight running shorts, but was lugging 15kg’s of camera kit around. Back in November some of the images from the day appeared as a nice spread in Outdoor Fitness Magazine.
The Three Peaks Race is an iconic race set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Starting and finishing in Horton in Ribblesdale, it takes on a traverse of the Three Peaks, Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough over a 23.3-mile circuit and includes 1,608 meters of ascent/decent. The course record of 2hrs 46 mins 3 secs was set by Andy Peace in 1996. The 60th edition of the race was eventually won by Ricky Lightfoot of the Salomon International Team in 2hrs 53mins 16secs.
